- Abstract
Proficient reading of a range of texts is required for successful participation in learning in secondary school and beyond. Students entering with lower-than-year level reading capacity are often challenged by the reading demands and find it difficult to engage with texts to the level required. Making reading and related tasks meaningful can also present challenges for teachers, particularly if many of the students show limited interest and enjoyment in reading. This paper describes a teaching approach called the Literacy Circles Progression, which was one school's response to these challenges. The approach changed classroom action and conversations around texts and reading.
