- Abstract
The article discusses how the play "Seuls" by Wajdi Mouawad relates to the painting "The Return of the Prodigal Son" by Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn and to the biblical parable. The archetypal and theological symbolism of a compassionate father and the search for forgiveness by an exiled son are discussed. The fascination of playwright Mouawad and author Henri Nouwen, who wrote books about spiritual life, with the Rembrandt paintings in the Hermitage Museum in Russia is also discussed. Rembrandt's paintings "Simeon with the Christ Child in the Temple" and "Saskia and Rembrandt: The Prodigal Son in the Tavern" are mentioned.
