- Abstract
Nationalism as a manipulative device may be alimented by identity entrepreneurs and thus depends on the (inter)national and super-national political contexts. It has also proven a quite effective and in the same time dangerous device in instilling malcontent and conflict-loaded environments on the socio-political stage. It may also be applied as a tool of diverting the average citizen's attention from the paramount socio-political and economic issues. As far as breeding nationalism is concerned, the post Second World War decades represent a span of time worth investigating. The present article attempts to investigate certain precise historical moments that have led to the encouragement of nationalism in the 20th century, especially after the Second World War in Romania and in Hungary. It also wishes to provide possible answers to the questions: who are the real actors behind the nationalistic discourse? Who are the actors who suffer the real loss?
