- Abstract
The background for the article is experience from the establishment of a special course for social and healthcare assistants involving credit of 60 ECTS points toward nurse training in Nordsjaelland. The credit students are analysed in the article in relation to problems and challenges for the health service in the future. An enhanced inter-professionalism is seen as essential if the health service is to live up to these challenges. A role, the college of nursing and clinical practice must seek to enhance through nurse education. Fundamental nurse education highlights three paradoxes. which identify contradictory tendencies between the national, skill-focused educational thinking. and the international trend towards a humanistic tradition focused on academisation. Sustainable nursing offers us a taste of the direction nurse education can move in. in order to achieve a better balance. Credit students are seen as a sustainable option: for future nurses with an increased connection with clinical practice.
