Why Giraffes Could Go Extinct.
- Authors
LEE, DEREK E.
- Abstract
Giraffes are facing a significant risk of extinction due to various threats. Their population has declined by 40% in the last 30 years, leaving fewer than 70,000 mature individuals in the wild. The five biggest threats to giraffes are habitat loss, insufficient law enforcement, ecological changes, climate change, and lack of awareness. Conservation efforts are focused on protecting giraffe habitats, strengthening law enforcement against poaching, promoting sustainable practices, addressing the impacts of climate change, and increasing knowledge and awareness about giraffes. It is crucial to prioritize wildlife law enforcement and protect rangelands to ensure the survival of giraffes and other wide-ranging animals.
