- Abstract
The vasovagal reflex is an automatic response when the vagus nerve is stimulated. Vasovagal syncope may follow resulting in transient loss of consciousness. The vasovagal reaction is the most common adverse patient event experienced in the outpatient radiology setting. It is distressing and potentially dangerous for the patient and a source of concern for particularly inexperienced members of the multidisciplinary team. The pathophysiology and management of this reaction is reviewed with the intent of developing a staff education package.
