The article examines the results of a research conducted by Hongwei Sheng and colleagues on polymorphism in a metallic glass where the bonding is non-directional in nature. Ice, silicon and oxide glasses have been shown to have amorphous phases of distinct densities. A similar polymorphism has been observed in structurally different metallic glasses based on changes in atomic bond lengths.
