- Abstract
The article offers information on a process called guided participation that helps children's social development. It is stated that guided participation help children improve their thinking skills. Guided participation is an extension of Lev Vygotsky's theory of the zone of proximal development (ZPD) in which an adult provides the right level of support to help a younger acquire the required skills. The author advises to identify the social skills lacking in children who have difficulty playing, learning and interacting with others. Guided participation has a three step process that includes assess, inquire and respond.
