The Need for Antibacterial Approaches to Improve Caries Control.
- Authors
'Bob' ten Cate, J. M.
- Abstract
The article presents an analysis of antibacterial methods for reducing dental caries. An overview of relevant research is provided, focusing on issues such as the biofilm properties of dental plaque, and the effect of chlorhexidine applications on the oral biochemical environment. The impact of carbohydrate consumption, particularly sucrose, on oral hydrogen-ion concentration is discussed. The interaction of factors such as fluoride usage and individual variations in saliva on the etiology of dental caries are also addressed.
