- Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the application of the Roy Adaptation Model in the care of a child admitted in a hospital. To develop it was considered the informed consent of the child and his attending. The child was followed up daily during four days. The evaluation of the first level allowed to establish the basal state, to identify potential adaptation problems and to follow the daily evolution of the child. From the second evaluation level the adaptation problems were identified: Constipation and Disrupted skin integrity/Itching/ Infection. Based on identified stimuli and on established goals intervention activities were selected and ordered: Administration of cutaneous medication and Control of constipation. On the last follow up day injuries were without secretion and most of them healed. The appetite was preserved with an increase in the amount of liquids intake and inclusion of fibers in the diet. Anyway the child remained without evacuation. It was perceived as limitations of the study: child's difficulty in understanding the questions and verbalizing his needs and also it has to be considered as flaw the restricted number of adaptation problems which do not include all diagnosis listed by NANDA.
