- Title
"Perfect storm" fuels algal bloom.
- Authors
Gewin, Virginia
- Abstract
The article reports on the statement of some scientists on the cause of the algal bloom that resulted to widespread death in the coastal waters of the Pacific Northwest. Scientists state that oceanographic conditions such as onshore winds and warmer temperatures are required to cause the bloom and push it onshore. It notes that the bloom caused two mortality events which killed surf scoters and white-winged scoters in the first event and killing common murres in the second event.
