Hasse, Lee M.; Hasse, O. David
- Abstract
The article features the Least Grebes, birds that were found at the Yamato Scrub in Palm Beach County, Florida. It says that Least Grebes live in tropics as well as in wetland habitats including fresh and brackish ponds, lakes, slow-flowing rivers, and mangrove swamps. It adds that the existence of Least Grebes in Yamato Scrub was due to the conditions generated by tropical storm Fay in early August 2008. The principal food of the said birds was dragonfly nymphs which were abundant in Yamato Scrub. It mentions the observation of a Least Grebe along with its chicks found in the north pond of Yamato Scrub wherein their activities were determined. It adds that the chicks of the Least Grebe were characterized with dark eyes, lateral stripes on their heads, and a rufous patch on their crowns.
