- Abstract
The article chronicles the history of early resuscitation practices. The resuscitation methods of the Dutch were adopted by the Royal Humane Society during the 18th century. By 1832, the organization recommended only rubbing and warming as resuscitation practices and abandoned positive pressure ventilation. Surgeon J. S. Christian called for some clarification from the organization regarding the efficacy of some methods.
