- Abstract
The article highlights color in all its variety shows on the surface of living beings. Topics include Zur Farbenlehre Goethe, in the lines from his Theory of Colors in the epigraph of this essay, wrote of color as "a significant outer sign of what is happening within," and Edward Lear's poems are assuredly living beings, but Lear was artful at exploiting the fact that the significance of a sign can be felt without its signification being explicit.
