A criticism is presented of the nineteenth-century English translation of the poetic work known as the "Rubáiyát" by Omar ar Khayyám, translated by Edward FitzGerald. Topics include the sexual identity of FitzGerald, homophobia, both eroticism and homoeroticism in the poem, and death in literature.
