- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented of Vladimir Nabokov's novel "Lolita." It discusses Nabokov's brilliant writing in English despite, or perhaps because of, the fact that he was a native speaker of Russian. It notes that Nabokov's prose style distracts the reader from the protagonist's criminality. It compares Nabokov's outsider position with that of other non-native writers of English, such the Dutch Bernard Mandeville in "Fable of the Bees" and the Polish Joseph Conrad in "Heart of Darkness.
