- Abstract
The article comments on the study made by authors Danny D. Steinberg and Jun Yamada entitled "Are Whole Word Kanji Easier to Learn Than Syllable Kana?" The paper is an utmost importance to Japanese educators and parents. The main purpose of their study is to find out whether the multiplicity in kanji characters is easier for beginning readers. However, the study fails to demonstrate superiority of kanji over Kana for initial reading instructions in Japan.
