- Title
"The Road of Excess Leads to the Palace of Wisdom": Alternative Economies of Excess in Blake's Continental Prophecies.
- Authors
Castellano, Katey
- Abstract
The article presents information on antinomian religious dissent, a religious and political tradition promoted by William Blake, a philosopher, in the wake of the immense social and political turmoil accompanying the French Revolution. Scholars have recently understood that condemning Blake as a radical liberal depreciates the amount of diversity within 1790s "radicalism." His economy of excess appears at times hedonistic or anarchic. Excess in both prolific and devouring--creates the basis for an alternative, non-utilitarian model of economy.
