The article focuses on a letter sent by papyrologist and literary scholar H. Idris Bell to the London newspaper "The Daily News and Leader" in 1914 which replied to Anglo-Welsh essayist and poet Edward Thomas' review of "Life and Poems of Dafydd ap Gwilym" compiled and translated by Evelyn Lewes. Topics include Thomas' influence on Welsh culture and the depiction of Wales in English writing, comment on Dafydd's biography as described in the book, and Thomas' criticism of Lewes' English style.
