Nitrogen cycle: Oceans apart.

- Abstract
The article provides an overview of a study which identifies the process and organisms responsible for nitrogen (N)[2] production in two of the major sites of nitrogen loss in the oceans. Researchers have found out that dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA)-annamox nitrogen cycle does not have a major role nitrogen loss. They instead investigated that indeed heterotrophic denitrification that accounts for removing reactive nitrogen from the ocean. They also suggested that a difference in the magnitude and timing of the supply of organic matter oxygen minimum zones (OMZ) is the critical factor.
