- Abstract
This article from the journal JCEM Case Reports discusses a case of a 74-year-old woman who was referred for investigation of weight loss and was found to have a 7-cm right adrenal mass. The patient had a medical history of hypertension and elevated plasma normetanephrine and metanephrine levels. Imaging tests, including CT, MIBG SPECT/CT, and 18-F-FDG-PET/CT, showed activation of brown adipose tissue (BAT) and confirmed the presence of a pheochromocytoma. After the patient underwent adrenalectomy, the weight loss and BAT activation resolved. The article highlights the association between BAT activation and cachexia in patients with pheochromocytoma.
