- Abstract
COVID-19 has been a global pandemic since 2020 and it has triggered a significant death toll in Indonesia. The Indonesian government has implemented a vaccination program to tackle the transmission of COVID-9 in Indonesia. However, the spread of misinformation has influenced the success of the program. This study aimed to reveal: (1) the correlation between knowledge and vaccination status, (2) the correlation between ability to identify hoax information and vaccination status. This was observational and cross-sectional study. Accidental sampling was employed to select the respondent who is the citizen of Surabaya. A questionnaire was used consisting of questions on knowledge, myths or facts, and attitudes. Results were analyzed descriptively. A total of 297 respondents participated in the survey. The majority of respondents were male within 17-25 years old and were mainly students. More than 80% of respondents answered correctly on aspects of knowledge about COVID-19 vaccination, including the ability to recognize myths and facts about the COVID-19 vaccine. Respondents also acknowledged that hoaxes have the potential to reduce vaccination participation rates. There was a correlation between knowledge and ability to identify hoax (p<0,005). Meanwhile, there was no correlation between knowledge and vaccination status. There was a negative correlation between ability to identify hoax dan vaccination status (p<0.005). However, several respondents mentioned that it was challenging to access accurate and reliable information against hoaxes.
