- Abstract
The article cites a study that evaluates the volatile organic compounds (VOC) concentration from water in metropolitan and petrochemical areas in Taiwan. It has been reported that the tap water of the country are often chlorinated but the chlorine mixes with organic compounds to form disinfectant by-products. The study also revealed that chloroform concentrations were highest out of the 12 VOC tested and bromoform was not detected. The country's water supply has been considered to have the highest total halomethane content due to contamination from industrial, agricultural and household water waste. The study provides a baseline data that can be used by the government or water treatment plants for monitoring the quality of household water.
