The article focuses on Derek Walcott's poem "Omeros." Derek Walcott's book-length poem Omeros is a monumental achievement. Because the poem stages the conditions of its own writing and features a discourse on its own operations, it is highly reflexive. Especially in the Caribbean, tourism can resemble imperialism in many respects, however there are also important differences that pose a challenge to Walcott's aesthetics.
