- Abstract
Today climate change is an international concern. Article 12 of International Kyoto protocol is one-step towards reducing carbon footprint. The protocol declares Certified Emission Reduction (CER) credits under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). According to it, the reduction in emission equivalent to 1 tonne of carbon dioxide (CO2) credits the country with 1 CER. The scheduling of COP-24 in December 2018 at Katowice, Poland has made 2018 an important year for progression on the Paris Agreement that was discussed in December 2015 at the climate meeting called the Conference of Parties (COP-21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). India is visualizing the increased usage of green energy with its National Renewable Energy Act, 2015. Power generation portfolio of India holds National Renewable Energy Act, 2015 as an important roadmap of renewable usage. India is fifth largest power producer in the world with the installed generation capacity of 306358.25 MW out of which renewable energy contribution is only 45065.48 MW. Studies estimate that India's ambitious target is of achieving 175 GW of renewable energy (RE) by 2022.
