- Title
Keeping the Underclass in Its Place: Zoning, the Poor, and Residential Segregation.
- Authors
Papke, David Ray
- Abstract
The article describes how suburban zoning ordinances allowed the underclass out of the suburbs. It states that the federal courts have been unresponsive to constitutional issues regarding exclusionary zoning. It states that suburbanites do not want people from the underclass in their community because of fear that they will bring their social life into their community. It notes that the bourgeois legal system and zoning have major roles in the creation of contemporary American underclass.
