- Abstract
This article discusses a case of a 75-year-old woman who presented with an enlarging ulcerated nodule on her neck. The patient had a history of hypertension, ischaemic heart disease, temporal lobe epilepsy, and a previous melanoma. Differential diagnoses considered included pyogenic granuloma, carbuncle, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, keratoacanthoma, and nodular melanoma. After examination and dermoscopy, the correct diagnosis was determined to be nodular melanoma. The patient underwent an excisional biopsy and was referred to a multidisciplinary team for further management, including wide excision and sentinel lymph node biopsy. The patient was also given compassionate access to pembrolizumab, a drug that has been shown to increase chances of survival.
