- Abstract
The analysis in this paper starts from the opinion of Eros Sequi that the topics in D'Annunzio's Novellas from Pescara belong to a "physical and moral pathology". Cold, indifferent and detailed descriptions of even the most terrible scenes are further stressed in collision with the beauty of D'Annunzio's expression. The experimental verism of the "verbal wizard" may not have won the approval from many critics, but its final product is unique and it requires a new and repeated examination. We consider it through the novella Virgin Orsola, especially in comparison to the composition Death of Stag from the book of poetry Alcyone, which is known as D'Annunzio's best and most elevated work where a different type od sensuality provokes a sensation of beauty and delightment. In that way the novella Virgin Orsola, which is indicative of the entire story collection Novellas from Pescara, as D'Annunzio's another literary transformation, gets a precise place in D'Annunzio's art and its real value is defined.
