- Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the association between IL-8 rs4073 -251 polymorphism located in the promoter region and colorectal (CRC) risk in a Romanian population. We included in our research 108 patients diagnosed with sporadic CRC and 150 controls. The DNA samples were analyzed using the TaqMan allelic discrimination assay. Odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated by unconditional logistic regression. We found that IL-8 rs4073 T>A polymorphism is not correlated with CRC, no significant association was observed for the subjects carrying AA genotype and CRC (OR 0.91, 95% CI: 0.45 - 1.84, p=0.79), when compared with the more frequent TT genotype. Furthermore, the carriers of A allele were not associated with CRC susceptibility (OR 1.01, 95% CI: 0.58 - 1.64) in a dominant model. No significant differences were observed between tumor stage (A+B, C+D) or histologic grading and controls for IL-8 rs4073 T>A in a strafied analyse.
