The Balkan states are gradually relying on EU standards for integrated border management as a functional start for the establishment of interstate cooperation. From the fact of regional and inter-neighbourly cooperation and while respecting the overall internal integration within the state and from initiatives stemming from Euro-Atlantic structures as well as from the government structures and academia, the idea of opening borders should be favoured replacing yesterday’s sources of Balkan conflicts with contemporary forms of regional cooperation in a new geopolitical model of well-being and peace, security and prosperity in Balkan. Consequently, the conditions on the borders of the Republic of North Macedonia represent an important part of the research activity of this scientific paper, their evolutionary development since the Macedonian independence, the developed strategies for managing the borders and attempts to achieve the best possible balance and goal. An important component of the scientific approach is the concluded demarcation Agreement between R. of N. Macedonia and R. of Kosovo, an act of demonstration of leadership, political wisdom and maturity, a step forward towards European Union. Furthermore, bilateral relations and cooperation with neighbouring countries, Greece, Albania, Serbia, Bulgaria and Kosovo have been analized from the period of independance of Macedonia until present days.
