- Abstract
In this study, it is aimed to examine the media literacy levels of the students studying in the faculty of sports sciences. The research group was conducted by Atatürk University in 2016-2017 fall semester. There are 292 students (90 females and 202 males) studying in the departments of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, Sports Management, Coaching and Recreation in total. The Media Literacy Level Determination Scale was developed by Karaman and Karataş (2009) and is a three-point Likert-type three-dimensional scale with 17 items. Frequency analysis to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants in the analysis of data; t-test was used in independent groups to compare media literacy levels according to gender, type of education and follow-up of newspapers. Oneway analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare media literacy levels according to episode, class, weekly TV viewing frequency and weekly frequency of internet usage, and Tukey test was applied to determine the source of difference between groups. As a result of the analyzes, it was determined that male students had higher media literacy level in terms of being able to judge / see implicit messages compared to female students. It is recommended to include this program in the elective courses in order to improve media literacy habits of students studying in the field of sports science.
