- Abstract
The significant social implications that cause rare diseases, both patients and their families, are added to the own organic alterations of these conditions and further accentuate their problems. After a thorough literature review of the topic in different databases: SciELO, ENFISPO, MEDLINE/PubMed, Cuiden, Cuidatge and Dialnet, subsequent analysis of the documents shows numerous and varied social effects caused by these diseases: difficulties in relation to the health system, problems of social integration, impact on family dynamics, economic costs, educational problems and psycho-emotional disorders, concluding the need to approach comprehensive healthcare with focus on equity that guarantee the right to health increase empowerment, avoid the social stigma and promote a normalized social integration.
