- Abstract
In this essay I explore the concept of mediocre in the short stories of Nadia Khan, Kopi Kola and Puaka Pak Jaha (2012). My argument is based on the concept of knowledge outlined by a famous Muslim scholar, Syed Naquib Al-Attas (1995) and is associated with the evolutionary of civilization introduced by Malik Bennabi (2001). Today's society is assumed to be a postcivilized society nurtured by various entertainment sources that also dominate the popular literary. The focus of the argument has been to analyze the characteristics of mediocrity in the two short stories based on the concept of intellectual knowledge. All of this will be relayed to explore the relationship between knowledge gained from experience. The method I use in this essay is a close reading of the text and analyze the perspective of reading essentially and explicitly through the selected work looking at the influence and the meaning. The findings show that knowledge plays an important role in reducing the influence of mediocrity both in thinking and in literary writing. Hence, the results of this study are expected to benefit the future researchers in empowering the quality and value of human civilization.
