- Abstract
Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the educational environment and students’ performance in the Medical College at Princess Nourah University. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted by using a non-probability convenience sampling technique. A modified questionnaire was distributed among 300 medical students from the first year to the fifth year during college working hours. The questionnaire includes three sections: I (personal and sociodemographic data); II, (students’ performance); and III, (students’ perception of learning environment), which was measured by the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) scale 50 and the statistical analysis was performed. Results: A total of 300 students participated in the study. The overall mean score for medical students’ perception of learning was 31.70, and for the teachers it was 27.03. Students perception of academic score was 22.11, atmosphere was 28.37, and the social self-perception was 17.22. The general perceptions of the students in all five sub-scales were positive (126.5). Conclusion: Students in pre-clinical years, with higher grade point averages, academic awards and those who skip classes only for emergencies were more satisfied. Overall, satisfaction scores are good considering that they were conducted at a new college in a female-only environment.
