- Abstract
Microbes ability to predominate the periodontitis (PI), antimicrobial potential of Cymbopogon citratus and terpenes intended present study to compare the antimicrobial potential of terpene derivative and hydroalcoholic extract of Cymbopogon citratus leaves (HECCL) against periodontitis triggering bacteria (PTB). Present study involved synthesis of a new ester derivative of terpene (NEDT) and preparation of HECCL. Synthesized compound was characterized using ATR-IR, 1H-NMR and Mass spectrometric data. Both NEDT and HEECL were further tested for their antibacterial potential against PTB such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Both NEDT and HECCL exhibited high antibacterial potential against PTB, however NEDT exhibited much higher antibacterial potential. Present study concludes that NEDT possess high antibacterial potential against PTB and recommends that NEDT should be further evaluated for its preclinical significance.
