- Title
Under the Ruffles: Shōjo and the Morphology of Power.
- Authors
LUNNING, FRENCHY
- Abstract
The article examines the complex, multilayered, transnational shojo culture and confronts its historical formations, social constructs, and the problem of her abject position to understand the central mysteries of its construction. Its proliferation of commodities is noted but also the lack of its meaning and centrality. Its characters, narratives, and features are elaborated. An understanding of the feminine in shojo culture through the characterization of author Julia Kristeva is presented.
