- Abstract
The article focuses on the study on the development of Slavic accentuation from Indo-European to the end of the Proto-Slavic period. It discusses the chronology of the subsequent accentual developments in Slovene and the conditions under falling vowels originated. It points out the lengthening of short falling vowels in monosyllables, and the shortening of vowels under the old acute intonation. It also explores the retraction of the stress as another Proto-Slavic development.
