An interview is presented with Gael Newton, former senior curator of Australian and international photography at the National Gallery of Australia (NGA). She comments on the exhibition "Garden of the East: Photography in Indonesia 1850s-1940s" in terms of its cultural significance and also discusses her resignation from the NGA and the reception of Australian photography.
