- Abstract
Small animal models of haemorrhagic shock alone (without significant tissue trauma) and without a critical care component may not be adequate to represent the dynamic and heterogenous nature of the human response to severe injury. Delayed neutralization of interleukin 6 reduces organ injury, selectively suppresses inflammatory mediator, and partially normalizes immune dysfunction following trauma and hemorrhagic shock. Trauma is often referred to as the "Silent Pandemic", and in recent history has been the most common cause of death and chronic morbidity in children and adult men until mid-life [[1]].
