Can Tenants Take Back Bozeman?
- Authors
BULLINGTON, JOSEPH
- Abstract
This article discusses the issue of gentrification in Bozeman, Montana, and the efforts of the Bozeman Tenants United to resist this wave of development. The tenants union was founded in response to the affordable housing shortage exacerbated by the Covid pandemic, and they successfully campaigned for a ban on whole-house short-term rentals in the city. Although the ordinance only applies to new rentals, it is seen as a step in the right direction. Joey Morrison, a renter and social worker, won the mayoral election with the support of the tenants union, signaling a shift in the community's priorities.
