- Abstract
The article presents a case study of a 54-year-old diabetic male patient intubated and mechanically ventilated for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Early phases of severe ARDS, extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal through full ECMO support might not suffice to control respiratory effort and to keep transpulmonary pressure within safe limits. The article discusses death of patient on controlled ventilation as a result of nonresolving multidrug-resistant bacterial infection.
