- Authors
BARTON, GREGORY A.; BENNETT, BRETT M.
- Abstract
The article discusses the alleged British monopoly held over teak tree forests in northern Siam formed by collusion between the British Foreign Office, the Bombay Burma Trading Corporation (BBTC), and the Indian government. The foreign policy of 19th century Great Britain in regards to forestry in this region is discussed, along with the foreign relations between Britain, the Kingdom of Siam, and India. Emphasis is given to forestry laws, the centralization of government in Bangkok, Thailand, and the imperialist aspects of Britain's forest control.
