- Abstract
The article discusses medical ethics and the difficulty in balancing public health requirements with patient privacy, particularly focusing on prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs) that are a part of efforts to centralize medical data and combat the opioid crisis in the U.S. during the early 21st century. It also discusses what is referred to as the stigma surrounding individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs).
