A film criticism is presented that examines the use of nihilistic sacrifice, from the philosophy German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, of in motion pictures set in Scotland. Motion pictures discussed include the 1973 film "The Wicker Man," directed by Robin Hardy and starring Edward Woodward, the 1996 film "Breaking the Waves," directed by Lars Von Trier and starring Emily Watson, and the 2010 film "NEDs," directed by Peter Mullan and starring Greg Forrest.
