- Abstract
Éco Entreprises Québec is facing numerous challenges in 2024 as it prepares for the complete implementation of the modernization of selective collection on January 1, 2025. The organization is working to establish around 120 contractual agreements with municipal organizations to define the general terms of collection, transportation, and frontline services for recyclable materials. Éco Entreprises Québec aims to ensure that no targeted materials are left behind and has adopted a standardized list of materials for the entire province. The organization will also take ownership of recyclable materials collected through municipal selective collection services and will be responsible for their marketing on behalf of the producers it represents. Additionally, Éco Entreprises Québec will oversee the contracts for sorting facilities and prioritize selling materials to local conditioners and recyclers when capacity and competition allow. The organization has identified 59 performance indicators, including 14 strategic ones, to measure the achievement of regulatory thresholds and contractual criteria for sorting facilities. It plans to implement a traceability system pilot project to monitor the composition and contamination of incoming materials. Éco Entreprises Québec will establish committees to monitor the implementation of local services and material management, ensuring communication with stakeholders such as producers, municipalities, sorting facilities, and recyclers. The organization will allocate a substantial budget to information, awareness, and education initiatives to promote proper recycling practices. Despite the challenges, Éco Entreprises Québec is optimistic about the successful completion of its modernization project and is committed to optimizing financial investments. The organization's obligations include managing contractual agreements
