- Abstract
The maxixe (Cucumis anguria L.) is a crop of food importance in Brazil. Morphological characterization of genotypes is relevant to identify and strengthen information regarding the genetic variability of the species and new genotypes in the region. The objective of the work was to morphologically characterize six maxixe genotypes obtained from local accessions and three commercial cultivars. Branches with a length of20 internodes were randomly selected for vegetative characterization, five male and five female flowers for reproductive characterization, and 20 fruits for characterization. Of the acquired measurements, the means were calculated and compared using Tukey (P <0.05), and ACP analysis was also performed. The results showed statistical differences in the vegetative, male flower, and fruit characterizations. The Feltrin® Calcutta smooth genotype stood out in main branch diameter, pedicel diameter, and calyx length, compared with the regional genotypes MAXGU#06 in plant characterization and MAXGU#03 in the male flower. In the characterization of the fruits, the regional genotype MAXGU#02 in fruit diameter, fruit length and fruit weight, and the regional genotype MAXGU#01 in fruit firmness, fruits per plant, and productivity were highlighted. Regional and commercial genotypes stood out in the male flower and plant characterization. The regional genotype stood out in the characterization of the female flower and the fruit. Despite the similarity between genotypes, the most recommended for productivity are regional genotypes. The formation of groups concludes that there is also variability between the studied genotypes.
