- Abstract
A historical-critical analysis of the latest book by the British historian of Ukrainian origin Mark Boitsun is carried out, devoted to the study of the experience of solving the national question in Ukraine in the context of socio-political processes, in particular, the labor movement. Chronological boundaries of work - from the 80s of the XIX century to the end of the first stage of the Ukrainian Revolution - the Hetman’s coup on April 29, 1918 (the author intends to continue to study an important, topical issue). There are positive features of achieving the result - the reproduction of a realistic picture of events - primarily through the creative use of historiographical achievements of previous generations in organic combination with recent scientific publications. Attention is drawn to some points, assessments, conclusions, generalizations that raise certain doubts, even disagreements and objections. In general, the monograph makes a positive impression, necessitates discussions on interesting issues on which the attention of domestic historians was not focused. A constructive “side view” helps to outline the prospects for studying an inexhaustible topic. Undoubtedly, M. Boitsun’s book will contribute to the formulation and solution of new aspects of historical experience and scientific progress.
