- Title
THE EXISTENTIAL DIMENSION OF PSYCHOANALYSIS (EDP): PSYCHIC SURVIVAL AND THE FEAR OF PSYCHIC DEATH (NONBEING).
- Authors
Wolson, Peter
- Abstract
The article focuses on the existential dimension of psychoanalysis (EDP). EDP assumes that the need for psychic survival and the fear of nonbeing constitute the main motivation behind the creation of psychic structures, defensive operations, and the separation individuation process. These psychic structures and their internal dynamics determine the coherence, quality, and experience of one's sense of being. The very existence of these psychic structures also remains precarious, requiring strengthening and maintenance even in psychologically healthy individuals.
