- Abstract
The article discusses aspects of the April 16, 2014 sinking of the South Korean ferry Sewol, owned by shipping company Chonghaejin Marine Co. Ltd., which killed 304 passengers including high school students. Topics include the company's reckless disregard for safety training, the South Korean Coast Guard's failed and ineffective rescue operation, and how the accident suggested the exhaustion of the South Korean political-economic model.
