The article discusses the portrayal and representation of racism in early modern England in William Shakespeare's play "Othello". Topics include the inscription of racial identity onto Othello by the inhabitants of Venice, a City in Italy; the mode of disgust plays a central role in how Othello is perceived by others in the play; and the connection between race and emotion in Early Modern English Literature.
